Pobars cake shop: Margaret Street on the southern side of the old Chronicle Building. A 1961 photo shows the names of 2 Pobars on top of the building. They may have been relatives of the well known butchers in Toowoomba.
Taking a step back in yesteryear, The Chronicle Arcade, is engrained in the history of Toowoomba CBD as far back as the 1920’s. It was known as the ‘place-to-be’ and housed such businesses as the Liberty Tea House and the Alfalfa Health Food Restaurant in the 1980’s.
In the early 1970s Ross Cedric bought the old Toowoomba firm, R.C. Ziegler and Sons Pty Ltd and became a partner in the setting up of the transport company QRX. Ross was also associated with the redevelopment of the Old Chronicle Arcade.
The Chronicle Arcade is undergoing a modern lift yet still holding it’s former beauty.
Nowadays you will find Bon Amici Winebar & Cafe, 3 Little Monkeys, Luminosa Make-up & Tanning Studio, Ryley Jewellers, Vintage stores and much more…
